Our Story

Studio Badge was founded in 2015 in Accra, Ghana out of a desire to see basic building materials and low-tech construction methods in a different light. The stunning results of our early prototype experiments on construction sites in Accra solidified the vision - to produce world-class design products with common materials in alternative ways using Ghanaian minds and hands.

In the 6 years since, we have transitioned from being a furniture design and manufacturing house to focusing on smaller lifestyle products that can easily fit into different spaces and bring beauty and joy. We love being able to create products that can be integrated seamlessly into any home or lifestyle space, and that one would be happy to have around for years on end. The Studio Badge aesthetic is minimalist, classic, and clean. We are heavily inspired by modern architecture (hint: our founder is an MIT architecture grad!) and so simple, geometric shapes are in our DNA.

Our design is inspired by three things – a love for texture and materiality and particularly that of concrete, a desire to use Ghana’s beautiful wood in more creative ways and a love for food! Concrete is not a typical kitchen/home décor material and that’s exactly why we chose to explore it. The idea of a dusty pink or mint green concrete food serving platter struck us as audacious, bold and fun and that is exactly what we are trying to achieve with Studio Badge products. The juxtaposition of a hard material in soft colors and in the heart of a home continues to inspire us. Lastly, Ghana has incredibly beautiful wood. The colors, patterns and other characteristics that we get from these locally woods are really one of a kind.

We are now so proud to be running an e-commerce store from our Accra Studio which helps us bring our products to the world. Currently, we ship to customers in the US, but we are working on expanding to shipping to other countries all over the world.

One of the highlights of our journey so far happened in the craziest of all years, 2020. We had the amazing honor of being selected as one of Oprah’s Favorite Things – a HUGE moment for us. Knowing the Oprah saw our products and that she together with the amazing Oprah magazine team thought the world needed our gift is something that we will always hold dear.

So where do we go from here? We are excited to keep making beautiful things, to explore other product types such as office accessories, and to keep flying the Ghanaian flag high for the world to see
